Original screenplay for the film Esther Kahn written by Arnaud Desplechin and Emmanuel Bourdieu.

Esther Kahn is a French-British film directed by Arnaud Desplechin and released in 2000. Its screenplay is inspired by a short story written by Arthur Symons and published in 1905.

At the end of the 19th century in London's East End, Esther Kahn works in tailoring with her Jewish family, but dreams of another life. After discovering the theatre, she decides to become an actress and gradually progresses through small roles. Guided by a former actor, Nathan Quellen, she improves her acting, even if she still lacks life experience.
