Antoine, a freshly graduated young police lieutenant, is assigned to the judicial police in Paris. He joins a team led by Commander Caroline Vaudieu, who has a difficult past.

Throughout his first investigation — linked to the discovery of a homeless man's body in the Canal Saint-Martin — he discovers the reality of the profession, amidst learning, doubts, and disillusionments.
