In the early 1990s, Benoît, an art history student, discovers he is HIV-positive after faking a suicide attempt to avoid military service. Devastated, he abandons his old life and embarks on a quest for excessive pleasures, marked by drugs and sexual experiences.
A trip to Italy brings him brief solace through his encounter with Claudia, with whom he falls in love. But refusing any stability, he leaves her and goes to Croatia, where he joins the war and soon dies.
